Peter joined the AbacusBio team in 2008, bringing with him a wealth of experience from the dairy industry.
Over the past 20 odd years, he has worked in a multitude of roles from equity partnerships to share-milking
to dairy farm ownership, which gives him an insight into dairying at many levels. In 2003, along with wife
Ginny, Peter won Otago Sharemilker of the Year, which included the financial, leadership and herd records
merit award. It is his passion for herd recording that has seen Peter achieve 100% recorded ancestry in his
own dairy herd and win the National herd record award.
At AbacusBio, Peter works as an agribusiness consultant in the dairy sector with clients and projects based
in Otago and Southland. Peter aims to work closely with clients to determine their individual needs and how
best to achieve their goals. He is particularly interested in the areas of pasture management, staff management
and herd recording. This, combined with an excellent understanding of the technical side of dairying, means
Peter can assist clients to achieve high production with low costs. He also works extensively with clients
through aspects of staff management, business growth, profitability, strategic planning and sustainability.
Peter writes a monthly article in Southern Rural Life
mainly on topical issues for dairy farmers and what to focus on at relevant points throughout the year. During his
spare time Peter loves spending time with his family, watching rugby and reading. He and Ginny also run some sheep
on their Taieri farm and currently Peter is going head to head with sheep farm consultant, Simon Glennie, in a lambing
percentage competition…watch this space!
