TEXpo highlights agri-tech expertise
AbacusBio had the opportunity to showcase the use of technology in transforming agriculture, at the Dunedin Techweek TEXpo 2018.
The expo is a free, collaborative, cross-campus showcase of innovative tech research, products, and industries.
Sponsored by Signal ICT Grad School as part of Dunedin Techweek and Techweek NZ, the day-long event included talks, demonstrations, open days, displays, film screenings and workshops, which were all held across two sites in Dunedin - the Otago Polytechnic hub and the Otago University Business School.
AbacusBio consultants Peter Wong and Liam Donald were at the event displaying a DJI Phantom drone and explaining its capabilities for on-farm data collection.
"The use of technology and big data is undoubtedly essential for the future of work, and using that for precision agriculture is a great example of that," Peter says.
We see an increasing trend of farmers adopting new technologies and software systems to increase productivity and profitability.
This expo is a great way to educate the general public and especially young people about not just a variety of emerging technologies, but also Dunedin's growing technology sector and the range of companies making a name for themselves globally.
Other Dunedin technology companies present at the expo were MixBit, Igtimi, Bison, ADInstruments, FireBrand, Scott Technology, Tussock Innovation, TracMap, and The Tarn Group.
