Sheep breeding experts head for the hills

Which sheep breeds perform best in the hill country? For New Zealand, that is the million dollar question.

Sheep breeders and scientists are hoping to find the answer in the first-ever hill country Central Progeny Test (CPT). The CPT will evaluate different sire breeds under hill country environmental conditions, which are more typical of many commercial sheep farm properties.

The programme is run by Beef + Lamb New Zealand and AbacusBio consultants Neville Jopson and Nadia McLean, with support from meat processor, Alliance Group.
