Goats conference fosters sector growth
The inaugural NZGoats conference - held in Queenstown last month - brought together not just farmers but veterinarians, nutritionists, and researchers from the meat and fibre goat sectors to foster the development of an unified approach to sector issues.
AbacusBio consultant Dr Anna Campbell was one of the guest speakers providing highly relevant and practical information in adding value to goat farming. She spoke about the importance of collaborating with partners in the value chain to ensure food integrity for customers. The need to understand what product attributes are valued by customers was also highlighted.
Other speakers include Richard Shaw from AgResearch, Ginny Dodunski from Totally Vets Ltd, Fiona Carruthers from Beef + Lamb New Zealand, and Richard Thorp from Lean Meats Ltd.
A valuable feature of the conference was the facilitated discussion session in which issues including the challenges that goat farmers face and what the sector might look like in the future, were examined.
